Brett skippers the vessel through the whale season, reading the water off Bundaberg and putting guests alongside humpbacks without ever pushing an animal. The commentary, the positioning and the call on when an encounter ends are his.

Every departure runs under a commercially qualified master — Captain Brett Lakey — with marine guides on deck handling commentary, safety and the questions that start the moment a whale appears. Between them the crew have spent years reading this stretch of water — which is why the boat is usually already turning towards a blow before most guests have spotted it.
Qualifications and standards
The vessel operates as an Accredited Tourism Business Australia member and holds Eco Certified Advanced Ecotourism certification. Every tour runs within the approach distances set for Queensland waters and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, and the crew are trained to read whale behaviour so an encounter ends when the whale decides rather than when the schedule says.
